When I started out on my clean living journey, I realized that:
This post is all about number 4. Simple switches to slowly guide you to a healthier way of nourishing your body. It’s all about taking baby steps and discovering a new way of sourcing the very food that becomes you!
Every cell in our body requires fat. If we are eating low quality and rancid oils, how do you think our cells feel? Our brain NEEDS healthy fats to function!!
Unhealthy Fats (All processed vegetable oils – Soybean, canola, corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, vegetable, grapeseed, vegetable shortening, margarine, anything “hydrogenated”.
Healthy Fats –
Great to cook with – Avocado, grass-fed ghee, organic unrefined virgin coconut oil, grass-fed beef tallow, pastured duck fat.
Great to eat raw – Organic extra virgin olive oil, MCT oil, walnut, almond, macadamia, sesame seed, tahini, flax, and hemp oil. (source all organic)
Throw away that iodized, bleach, and chemical-laden salts! Opt for salts like Celtic Sea Salt (my favorite!) If you are worried about not getting your needed iodine (which many of us are deficient in)… check out Main Coast Sea Vegetables! I use them daily.
The best option for sourcing produce is visiting your local growers market! Find the closest market to you by visiting: www.localharvest.org
Always follow the dirty dozen and clean 15 lists! Buy the Dirty Dozen list organic and it’s okay to source the Clean 15 conventionally!
Consuming conventional meat is not only devastating on your health but Mother Earth! By visiting your local growers market you will most likely find a local farmer that can provide you clean and pasture raised meats! OR follow this simple guide to source your meat better:
Here is my preferred source of beef! Their bone broth and seasoned meats are SOOOO amazing! Arizona Grass Raised Beef Company.
As far as chickens and eggs goes opt for local pasture-raised! If your can’t find this in your area, always opt organic!!!
It is time for us to move toward responsible fish consumption. First and foremost, the smaller the fish the safer they are for us. This is because in the ocean, big fish eat small fish and accumulate more and more toxins. Fish like shark, tuna, marlin, and swordfish are larger and are among the highest in mercury contamination.
Focus on consuming small fish like wild caught salmon, sardines, herring, anchovies, and mackerel.
By visiting the Monterrey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch, you can download a printable guide to help you know what is safe in your state! How amazing is that?! It’s amazing.
You can always connect with your local fish market too!
