My Morning Cleansing Tonic (Recipe)

Waking up to water is one of the first piece of advice I give to anyone looking to move themselves towards optimal health!

It is estimated that over 75% of American adults suffer from chronic dehydration!

Don't be a part of that 75%! Dehydration causes a multitude of health issues and keeping hydrated is one of the most important things you can do every day of your life!

Rule of thumb drink 1/2 your weight in ounces of water every day! For example, a 120 pound woman would need to drink 60 ounces of water every day.

120/2 = 60 ounces. Simple as that!

Waking up to water can be an incredibly beneficial habit to create in your life!

This morning tonic combines anti-inflammatory spices and detoxifying lemon to help kick start your health! It's extremely cleansing and will get things moving, if you know what I mean!

What's also key is that the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is highly anti-inflammatory and has a myriad of health benefits. Pairing it with black pepper helps us absorb all these benefits. Read more about this powerful combo here

Let's do this!

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz - 32 ounces of water (3/4 room temp and 1/4 hot)
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder or 1/2 inch grated turmeric root
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger spice or 1/2 inch grated ginger root
  • 1/8 tsp of black pepper
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or MCT (helps with absorption of curcumin, the active compound found in turmeric) 

Directions:

  1. Fill the drinking container with 1/2 full of filtered water.
  2. Squeeze juice from 1/2 - 1 lemon.
  3. Add zest, turmeric, cayenne powder, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, and pepper.
  4. Fill the rest of the container with water that has been boiled but wait about 4 minutes to cool before pouring into drinking glass.
  5. Mix in coconut or MCT oil. 
  6. Drink and support your body detox! 

Tips: To protect tooth enamel, use a glass straw and after drinking swish with 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 4 ounces of water. Don't brush your teeth before or after drinking by 15 minutes.
